A recent study which is published in BioMed Research International showed that a good number of cases of xanthelasma palpebrarum are combined with smoking, central obesity, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia, which are the major risk factors for coronary artery disease.

How they can be treated ?

Unfortunately, the cholesterol spots are so hard to treat. Because they are located very close to the eye, surgery is not a recommended treatmen. It can lead to scarring. Same results are from the laser treatment.

It is needed to find out the cause of your xanthelasma and plan the treatment accordingly. For example, if the cause is high cholesterol in the blood, you should reduce your cholesterol level.

In the meantime, these home remedies can help minimize the appearance of or even remove the bumps.

  1. Garlic
    The best and the most popular home treatment for deposits is garlic. It contain enzymes which help flatten the small, bumpy deposits. Garlic is also beneficial for reducing a high cholesterol level.
    How to use:
    First you should crush some cloves and turn them into a paste.Then apply this paste around the bumps area and cover it with gauze. Take it sit about 10 minutes and then wash with warm water. You should do this remedy daily for about a week.
  2. Castor Oil

    Castor oil is a rich in ricinoleic acid that can low the cholesterol.
    How to use:
    Soak a cotton ball with the oil and apply it on the area and massage gently. Secure the cotton ball with a tape and leave it for the night on your face. In the morning you should remove it.

  3. Apple Cider Vinegar
    If your deposits are caused by high cholesterol, apple cider vinegar is just what you need, because it will reduce your LDL level in the body.
    How to use:
    First, soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and then apply it to the affected area. After 2 hours, remove the cotton ball and rinse the area with warm water. Repeat this process a couple of times a day.Also, you can mix 1 tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and a little raw honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it twice daily.
    You should know that If you have sensitive skin, you need to dilute the apple cider vinegar with a little water before use.
  4. Fenugreek Seeds
    Soak 2 teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in a glass of water overnight. In the morning when you wake up drink this mixture on an empty stomach. It will help reduce the level of bad cholesterol in your body. Repeat daily.Also, you should apply the water in which the fenugreek seeds were soaked overnight on the affected area. Massage the area gently with your fingertips, so that the water penetrates deep into the skin.
  5. Bananas PeelsBanana’s peel has strong antioxidant properties and the enzymes in it help dissolve the bumpy deposits naturally.
    How to use:
    First, cut out a small piece of a ripe banana peel. Then you should place the inside part of the peel over the cholesterol deposit.Use a bandage or tape to secure the peel and leave it on overnight.When you wake up, remove the peel and wash the area with water.

    It can helps to lower the levels of total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides, hence it is effective at treating xanthelasma.
    Because this seeds have hypoglycemic effects, they are also effective in diabetes management, another risk factor for xanthelasma.
    How to use:First, boil 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds in a cup of water.Then cover and allow the mixture to steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain out the seeds and drink the water.
    You should repeat 2 or 3 times a day to bring down your cholesterol levels.
  7. AlmondsAlmonds can reduce LDL cholesterol in the body, so, they are also effective in reducing cholesterol spots around your eyes.
    How to use:
    In 1 teaspoon of almond power add a little milk, and mix them to form a paste. Then apply this paste on the bumps and allow it to dry.With a wet finger, gently scrub off the paste. You should repeat once daily.
    Also, daily soak 4 or 5 almonds in water at night and eat in the morning as a part of your breakfast.
  8. Onions
    Extract the juice from 1 onion and add a little salt to it and set it aside for a couple of hours. When you go to bed, apply it and massage gently. Leave it on overnight.Next morning wash it with warm water.
